  • Walking Project: Working on Houdini socks out of Socks that Rock lightweight. She only gets 30 minutes to work on these every day, so it's taken a while to finish.
  • Easy fingerless mittens for her eldest nephew using Colinette Hullaboo aran weight yarn. It's going really fast!
  • AT the Pajama Jammie Jam, Jade picked up a crazy color Manos del Uruaguay skein of yarn...and had to cast on immediately. Colors are all highlighter neon, so she's pairing it with a skein of Cascade silk heritage (very nice) to tone down the colors.
  • Swapetition with the Savvy Girls! Check out what Jade got in her package.
  • Sandy.
    • Gift socks for a friend.
    • She's making progress on the Union Jack sweater, but "Intarsia b hard, yo."

  • Finished Lacy Diagonal Scarf -- made from handspun yarn from SpinU
  • Jade still has 5 on the needles.
    • Aran sweater -- it's been slow going
    • Katwise gloves - Fingerless gloves inspired by Katwise, who creates upcycled sweaters and handwarmers.
    • Denver Cowl -- auto-pilot knitting for knitting groups or other gatherings.
    • Color Affection (in Miss Babs Yet) -- catch when catch can
    • Swirl Coat -- which is in slight hibernation with the warm weather.

Bill is working on his costume for the Convolution 2013 Goblin ball. It is a Doublet, in midnight blue and “pewter” lining, short cape to match, over tights and boots. Previous costumes included:
Jade has finished up the matching "waist cincher" for one of her hall costumes for Convolution that matches her bodice/vest.

She also brought her sewing machine to get the timing fixed as she broke 6 needles while trying to sew linen. The following animated gif shows how a 'lock' stitch is created in a sewing machine and how important the timing is correct.

The girls are BUSY sewing for Convolution.

Sandy's been busy sewing up a storm for her Troll Princess gown for the Goblin King Ball in November. Her bodice is done, as is the skirts. She's in the process of making a chemise. She also got the Zupan pattern (from Reconstructing History) for her husband, and is considering how to modify it so that he doesn't bake in it.

Jade still has received her silk samples from SilkBaron.com, but has not yet ordered the fabric. In the meantime, she has been sewing on her hall costumes, including a "mini-vest". You can find details on her personal blog.

  • Jade is only working on her Aran sweater, and is finishing up the left front panel of the sweater.
  • For Tour de Fleece, Jade is working on a merino hogget fleece. She's spinning 6 ounces to turn into a 3-2 cable ply.

The girls talk about sewing dresses for the Goblin King ballgown and Convolution in general. Suggestions were made, such as modifying used wedding dresses for a "fairy ball gown effect. Sandy isn't quite sure what to make yet, but she definitely wants to make something! Jade is currently french draping her outfit for ConVolution, which is more Elven in nature -- a mix of Lord of the Rings and Game of Thrones look.

    • Finished the Shalom cardigan with 1/2 sleeves

    • 2-ply DK weight yarn for an Old Shale Stole (merino silk)
    • 3-ply cashmere & merino -- which is spinning like BUTTER.

REVIEW:

Jade reviews the KnitCompanion app for the iPad, as she is using it on her Aran sweater. She'll write up a full review on her blog in the next day or so.

Jade took apart a previous costume (her Ghwazee) so she could remake parts of it with more internlining for a stiffer fabric as she didn’t have enough to make a completely new one.

  •  Still working on the Coat of Many Colors out of the yarn, Mountain Goat (by Mountain Colors) , which is mohair and wool. And I’m really really like knitting up this yarn. 
  • Started a pair of socks using a modified pattern, “Faceted Rib” from the “Little Box of Socks” as an in-between project for the Coat when Jade gets too bored.
    • One sock is done!  
    • The yarn is from Lisa Souza’s yarns, called “SOCK!”. The colorway is Lime & Violet, --- a yellow/green color with a dark purple. 
SPINNING: Jade is trying to spin through her fiber stash, after discovering that she had some singles that had been sitting on the bobbin for over a year.

Jade has also written up some tutorials for using different spinning tools. If you guys have any questions regarding spinning, ask Jade, and we'll put it on the podcast!! She doesn't want to bore anyone too much with talks about spinning!

Get Geeky 

The girls discuss the recently released movie, The Hobbit, and Sandy points out all of the crafty goodness inherent in the movie. There are spoilers in this first half of the show, so be forewarned!

Sandy & Jade discuss what's on their upcoming project list, as well as their current projects

Fiber Optics

Sandy:
  1.  the Cosby Sweater - She's addicted to the sweater and is nearly half way done. She broke her scrap yarn pledge, and picked up several skeins of yarn for this project.
  2. Java socks - her lunch knitting at work 
  3. Planning: The lace cardigan from Knitty, Que Sera, and has ordered Cascade Venezia in worsted for the project 
Jade:
  1.  Raglan Hoodie - She finished her handknit, handspun sweater a few days before Christmas, and it's been another go-to sweater for her. 
  2. Vanilla socks - She finished the pair of vanilla socks for her friend's mom (in trade for a quilt), but she's looking for other knitted wear to make in order to make the trade more "even".
  3. Striped handwarmers - Jade's first full fledged project for 2013. These handwarmers are made out of Frog Tree Pediboo, a sportweight merino/bamboo yarn. 
  4. Skull & Crossbones Argyle Vest - She just cast on for this project, after finding a skull chart on Ravelry & modifiying it.

Make it Sew!

Sandy took a big chunk out of her mending pile during vacation, and it felt good --- Inverness cloak, delicate summer haori, handsewing yukata, and more!
